Dr. Alexa Mordhorst – PGY5
Dr. Mordhorst completed her Bachelor of Health Science at McMaster University, and followed with her MD at the University of British Columbia. While she enjoyed her time in Ontario, she was excited to come back to the west coast for her medical training and residency.
Following the completion of residency, she will be moving to the UK for a year to complete a fellowship in deep venous reconstruction in London. While she is passionate about all aspects of Vascular surgery, she became interested in venous pathology during her training, noting a need for further learning, teaching, and support in the deep venous world in Canada. She looks forward to bringing this knowledge and skill set back following her time across the pond.
When not in the hospital, Alexa enjoys exploring the various cuisines in Vancouver, relaxing on the beach (when it’s not raining!), and going to shows and concerts with family and friends.
Dr. Sara Al-Adawi – PGY4
Dr. Al-Adawi is the first Ineternational Medical Graduate to join the direct entry UBC Vascular Surgery program. After completing her medical school in Oman, she moved to Vancouver in 2020 in the midst of the COVID pandemic.
Sara loves Vancouver for its beautiful landscapes and enjoys the many sushi spots available in town. When not at work, you’ll probably find her at the gym, a yoga class or on a trail run.
Dr. Sally Choi – PGY4
Dr. Choi moved from South Korea to Vancouver as a child and has stayed in town since then. She was part way through her pharmacology degree at UBC before starting medical school then residency at UBC.
She is actively involved in vascular surgery research and has published papers on topics from aortic pathologies to adverse events in vascular surgery. She enjoys travelling and goes to multiple conferences each year to share her work and explore new cities.
In her spare time, Sally enjoys checking out new food spots around town with family and friends. She also likes to work out and get caught up with her favorite television shows.
Dr. Tony Gu – PGY3
Dr. Gu was raised in Calgary, Alberta. He completed his MD as well as BSc in neuroscience at the University of Calgary. He grew up surrounded by the mountains and enjoys all aspects of the outdoors, including hiking, fishing, and camping.
In addition to clinical work, Dr. Gu has an interest in teaching and mentorship. He continues to conduct research in multiple areas of vascular surgery, including peripheral vascular disease, aortic disease, dialysis access, collaboration between specialties, and sustainability.
In his spare time, Dr. Gu enjoys cooking, being active, pop music, and spending time with friends and family. He is always busy planning his next big trip.
Dr. Farhad Udwadia – PGY2
Dr. Udwadia earned his MD from the University of British Columbia after completing a Master of Bioethics from Harvard University, and a BA in Economics from McGill University. He is originally from Bombay, India.
During medical school, he conducted various research studies within Vascular Surgery, and its interaction with medical ethics. He received the George W. Leroux Memorial Scholarship for demonstrating an aptitude for surgery upon graduation. In residency, he continues to be involved in research and teaching.
Farhad is a former rugby player, playing at the national level and at McGill University. In his spare time, he enjoys staying active, travelling and spending time with his family and friends.
Dr. Ibraham Al Kindi – PGY2
Dr. Al Kindi earned his medical degree from the Sultan Qaboos University in the Sultanate of Oman. He had shown a keen interest in Vascular Surgery throughout medical school and was pleased to join the Vascular Residency Program at UBC to start a career path a specialty he is enthusiastic about.
Ibrahim enjoys spending his free time with his wife and son, cooking, and barbecuing.
Dr. Meghan McGillivray – PGY1
Dr. McGillivray earned her MD from the University of British Columbia after completing a BSc in Physiology with a minor in Kinesiology at McGill. At the time of graduation, she was awarded the George W. Leroux Memorial Scholarship for demonstrating an aptitude for surgery. Starting residency, she is looking forward to being involved in teaching and research.
Meghan grew up on her family’s centennial cattle ranch in Kamloops BC and continues to be involved in the agriculture community. In her free time, she enjoys staying active and trying new restaurants.
