Founded in 1894, SPH is the oldest institution in the Providence Health Care authority. SPH hosts the largest provincial dialysis program and therefore the busiest dialysis access team. The 3 staff vascular surgeons work closely with interventional radiologists to deliver learning opportunity for residents in both open and endovascular therapies. SPH also has the unique radiofrequency ablation program providing residents a full spectrum of vascular care.

SPH has one of the highest volumes of transfemoral aortic valve implantations (TAVI) in the country and with it come unique access-related surgeries that trainees will gain proficiency. Residents will also be exposed to a variety of different technical approaches including the eversion endarterectomies and the St. Paul’s fistula for lower extremity bypasses. Equipped with one of the first hybrid operating rooms in the province, SPH remains one of the core training sites for the UBC Vascular Surgery Program.
