Dr. Chen is a clinical professor of surgery at the University of British Columbia. He has more than 25 years of experience in all aspects of vascular surgery including advanced open, and endovascular treatment techniques for arterial and venous diseases. He is especially interested in clinical research and teaching — particularly in the areas of endovascular aneurysm therapy and treatment of venous diseases.

Dr. Chen graduated from medical school at University of Manitoba in Winnipeg. He stayed there to complete his General Surgery training in 1995 before moving to University of British Columbia to complete his Master’s degree in Physiology and Vascular Surgery in 1997. Dr. Chen has had extensive additional training in Endovascular Surgery at UCLA, Harbor Medical Center, University of Hong Kong, Queen Mary Hospital, and University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre.

Dr. Chen has served as the Head of Vascular Surgery at UBC and Vancouver General Hospital, and president of both the Canadian Society for Vascular Surgery and the Pacific Northwest Vascular Society. He served as an examiner for vascular surgery certification exams from 2005 to 2009, and 2017 to 2023 at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

In his spare time, Dr. Chen enjoys music, theater, cycling, pickleball, and spending time with his family.
